These sink stoppers are spring-loaded, so all you have to do to open or shut them is press down on them from within the sink. A single push locks them in the closed position, and a second push opens them up again, thanks to the internal spring. Remove the Old Drain Assembly

Take channel-type pliers and loosen the P-trap on the sink drain tailpiece and branch drain. Then, remove it. You may not even need a tool to release and remove certain traps. If you think the trap could contain water, put a bucket below it to collect it. Take out the previous pop-up linkage assembly, if any. Using channel-type pliers, take the old drain assembly’s mounting nut from the tailpiece. Get the whole drain assembly up and out of the sink. You may need to twist the tailpiece to break the seal on the drain flange. After removing the drain assembly, wipe the sink well to remove dirt and old plumber’s putty. 

Prepare the New Pop-Up Drain Stopper

Remove the new pop-up parts from their assembly. Take the mounting nut from the drain tailpiece by unscrewing it. Put the rubber and plastic washers in place by pressing them against the mounting nut.

Apply Pipe Joint Compound

To prepare the rubber washer against the sink, use a thin coating of pipe joint compound on its upper surface. Use a joint compound at the joint for a watertight seal against the sink’s drain opening. Although it is not required, a pipe joint compound may be necessary to provide a proper rubber seal.

Apply Plumber’s Putty

On the bottom of the flange of the sink drain ring, apply a liberal bead of the plumber’s putty. The top part of the drain assembly will be able to seal against the sink drain’s opening with the putty’s aid. You may use silicone caulk instead of plumber’s putty. Instead of using a plumber’s putty or caulk, you may use the foam or rubber gasket with specific pop-up components.

Connect the Drain Parts

The drain hole beneath the sink raises the pop-up drain tailpiece assembly to its highest feasible position. Slide the drain ring into the hole above the sink while keeping the drain piece in position. Thread the ring onto the drain-tailpiece as far as you manual. After retrieving it from beneath the sink, place the pivot rod through the tailpiece’s side aperture. A plastic washer is often found on each side of the plastic ball. Once you feel the pivot rod tip pass through the drain assembly’s stopper linkage aperture, you may proceed to secure the ball inside the tailpiece by screwing the pivot rod nut into the threaded fitting on the side. Check that the pivot rod works if the stopper does not move up and down the drain.

Tighten The Nut Hand If The Pop-Up Is Functioning Well.

Ensure the stopper and pivot rod are in the correct places to ensure proper assembly if the pop-up is not functioning. The nut is too tight when adjusting the pivot rod if the pop-up assembly becomes stuck. Loosen it slightly.

Install the Pop-Up Lever

Connect the horizontal pivot rod to the vertical lever after ensuring your stopper is up (open). Feed the vertical pop-up lever by the hole behind the faucet’s spout. Link the connecting strap to the vertical pop-up lever’s end from under the sink. When finished, screw the connecting strap into the pivot rod.

Connect the Pop-Up Lever and Pivot Rod

Use the spring clip to fasten the vertical strap to the horizontal pivot rod; the clip has two ends, one for each side of the strap. Thread the clip onto the rod. Ensure the pop-up stopper can come into the drain hole and back down again. If the rod connections still aren’t right, try squeezing and repositioning the spring clip.

Reassemble the Drain Trap

Reattach the P-trap to the drain tailpiece and pipe. To locate leaks from below, fill the sink to the top, close the stopper, and open it to allow water to drain. Do not over-tighten the connections; tighten them using channel-type pliers if they leak.
