FAQs of Brass Thermostatic Mixing Valve
1. What is the difference between a TMV and a pressure-balancing valve?
Thermostatic mixing valves have a built-in thermistor that detects outlet water temperature. Even if there’s a little change in the hot/cold water ratio or water pressure, the valve core adjusts quickly to compensate. It keeps the outlet temperature within your set range, stopping sudden temperature changes right from the start. Usually, it controls the outlet temperature deviation to within ±2℃. making it suitable for bathrooms, heating systems, and similar applications.
Pressure balancing valves detect pressure changes at the hot and cold water inlets. They use their internal balancing structure to automatically adjust hot and cold water flow, keeping the inlet pressure relatively balanced. This indirectly cuts down on water temperature changes caused by pressure fluctuations. But these valves can’t set the water temperature precisely. They don’t have active anti-scald functions, either. If the temperature of the incoming water changes on its own, the outlet water temperature will still fluctuate too.

2. Does the TMV include integrated check valves on both hot and cold inlets?
Every Plumberstar Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV) comes standard with an integrated check valve at both hot and cold water inlets. It stops cross-flow between hot and cold water effectively. This design keeps cold water from flowing back into the hot water pipeline, cutting energy waste and reducing wear on hot water equipment. It also prevents hot water from flowing back into the cold water pipeline, avoiding scald risks from sudden hot water at the outlet.
The integrated structure combines the thermostatic mixing valve with dual check valves, cutting down external connection points. This boosts overall reliability, lowers installation risks and customer complaint rates, and reduces after-sales maintenance costs too. The check valve and thermostatic valve core are designed to work together under the same working conditions, fully adapting to the system’s water pressure and temperature range. They open and close sensitively, and won’t affect the normal hot and cold water inlet flow, or the accuracy of mixed water temperature control.
What’s more, the check valve is designed for easy maintenance. You can take it apart separately for cleaning or replacement later on; no need to change the whole valve. This keeps the valve running stably for the long term and brings down maintenance costs.
3. How is each TMV tested before factory shipment?
We test every TMV fully and thoroughly. Only products that pass all core test items are packed and shipped.
Structural Strength and Tightness Tests
Shell pressure resistance test: Block all the valve’s water outlets, inject water or air into the valve body at 1.5 times the rated working pressure. Check every part carefully for potential leakage, including the valve body and all connections. Valve seat sealing test: Test the valve seat’s sealing performance alone when the valve is closed. This stops hot and cold water from mixing inside the valve body.
Extreme Safety Test
Cold water failure protection test: Cut off the cold water supply completely, suddenly during the test, simulating unexpected interruptions. The TMV’s internal thermal-sensitive components must respond quickly—within 1–2 seconds —almost closing the hot water channel. This causes water output to drop quickly, reducing scald risk. It’s one of the TMV’s core safety features.
Plumberstar can provide the corresponding inspection reports for each batch of TMV as needed. The reports are delivered with the goods, making it easy for your quality management and project acceptance work.
4. What thermostatic element is used in the brass thermostatic mixing valve?
Plumberstar brass thermostatic mixing valves use a wax thermostat as the core component for temperature control. This wax thermal element is a mature, stable, and high-performance solution for constant-temperature control in industry. It’s perfect for all kinds of water temperature control scenarios, like bathrooms and heating systems.
The wax thermal element is filled with high-purity thermal wax inside. It leverages the physical property of wax—expanding when heated and contracting when cooled—to detect tiny changes in outlet water temperature with precision. Its temperature-sensing error is controlled within ±1℃, and it responds super sensitively. It can quickly drive the valve core, adjusting the openings of the hot and cold water inlets in real time. This way, the outlet water temperature is kept stable and accurate.
If the pressure or flow of the hot and cold water inlets fluctuates, the element compensates quickly for the resulting temperature changes. It effectively prevents the outlet water from suddenly turning hot or cold. Thanks to its fast response, when water temperature shifts, the system can finish adjusting and get back to stability in just 1–2 seconds. This makes sure end users have a comfortable and safe experience using it.

6. What’s the ODM process for the brass thermostatic mixing valve?
For ODM cooperation, you just need to share your product ideas or market plans—even a simple sketch works perfectly. Our engineering team will communicate with you in depth to confirm all key details: target market, required certification standards, functional needs, design direction, target costs, and expected retail prices.
Based on this, we’ll assess the feasibility of your product concept. We’ll put forward structural and cost-optimization suggestions based on our past project experience and provide a clear, transparent preliminary quotation. It includes mold costs, product unit prices, and the estimated development cycle.
Once the plan is confirmed, we’ll turn your requirements into 3D models and complete engineering drawings, then submit them to you for review. After the drawings are approved, we’ll produce 1–2 fully functional samples using CNC machining. When the samples are ready, we’ll do a full set of tests and send the samples together with the test report to you for your physical check, installation verification, and performance evaluation.
Once the samples receive final confirmation, we’ll officially begin the mold stage, completing the design and manufacturing of hot- and die-casting molds. After the molds are finished, we’ll arrange the first trial production to make a small batch of products, and conduct a comprehensive inspection on this batch. We’ll make sure all indicators meet your requirements.
After the trial production samples pass the check, the production line will start mass production officially. The whole production process is handled by about 150 professionals. Every step—from brass raw material inspection, hot forging forming, precision machining, assembly, to 100% pressure testing for each valve—follows standardized procedures. Meanwhile, quality inspectors conduct random checks across all key processes to ensure that production standards are strictly followed.
Before packaging, we’ll do a final pre-shipment random inspection to confirm the products are in stable and reliable condition. Then we’ll do custom packaging according to the confirmed plan, print your brand logo and SKU barcodes, and finish standardized packaging.
