Millions of buildings worldwide install HVACs to make their living space more comfortable. But many of them don’t even know its meaning. In this article, you’ll learn HVAC’s meaning, parts, working procedure, and other important criteria. So, let’s break it down.

What is the meaning of HVAC?

HVAC and its meaning are a composition of three different units. H stands for ‘Heating,’ V indicates ‘Ventilation,’ and AC elaborates ‘Air Conditioning.’ Therefore, HVAC means ‘Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. It is a system responsible for heating, cooling, and sanitizing your building’s or room’s air. Its purpose is to provide decent heat comfort and indoor air quality.

Inside of HVAC

Now that you have a better understanding of what an HVAC system is… So, come on and take a deeper look at the key  components of an HVAC system

You’ve already read that the HVAC system is a combination of three units. And these three units (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) are also made with several components.

Heating: In most cases, the heating unit of an HVAC system is either a gas/electric furnace or a heat pump

Ventilation: The ventilation includes air vents, air ducts, exhaust fans, and filters. This is the most important thing in an HVAC system because it controls the air movement and sanitizes it to make it healthy.

Air Conditioning: This part has the evaporator and expansion valve located inside the building. And compressor and condenser outside. The primary feature of the AC is to cool… and control the temperature using a thermostat. However, it also controls the humidity in the air.

How Does HVAC System Work?

The overall working method of the HVAC system is quite simple. However, if you know the working of its various components, it will be easier to grasp the HVACs working principle. So, here are some essential components doings:

Thermostat: It lets you control the air temperature. It offers to do it manually or automatically. When the temperature rises, it turns on the air conditioner. On the other hand, when the temperature drops, it depends on the heat source to heat the air.

Furnace or Heat Pump: The furnace and heat pump do the same thing. The furnace moves air from the heat source to the air ducts. And the heat pump pulls hot air from inside to outside during hot days. Meanwhile, on cold days, it does the opposite.

Ducts: The ducts are the channels through which the cooled and hot air passes.

Vents: Air travels through the ducts but enters the room through the vents.

Filter: It filters the incoming air to remove unwanted things like dust, dirt, etc., and makes it clean and healthy.

Refrigerant Tubes: These aluminum or copper tubes connect condensing and evaporator coils. It carries  refrigerant  between those units.

Evaporator: It absorbs the heat from the inside of your room. It also reduces the humidity to establish decent air.

Condensing Unit: This one is similar to the evaporator but works from outside the HVAC system.

Compressor: This generates the energy and power needed to transfer the refrigerant across the system.

Overall HVAC System Working Procedure

An HVAC system aims to warm or cool the air and distribute it throughout the building. However, it also improves the air quality to make it user-friendly.

Firstly, the system takes air from outside and sends it for ventilation. The ventilation process includes replenishing oxygen and removing dust, dirt, allergens, moisture, odors, carbon dioxide, etc

Secondly, when the ventilation is completed… the system follows the thermostat for temperature control. If it’s cold outside, the thermostat indicates the system sends the air to the heating zone. When the sanitized air goes into the heating unit … the heating unit heats the air as per the user’s need. Similarly, the air goes into the air conditioning zone on hot days. It lowers the air temperature and maintains the humidity level.

Further, once the air is ventilated and comfortable, it is directed into the rooms.

Uses

HVAC systems are often used in single-family and apartment buildings. Also, you can see it in commercial buildings like hospitals, schools, hotels, etc… Nowadays, people use HVAC systems to get a comfortable environment in cars, trains, airplanes, and ships.

What is the difference Between AC and HVAC?

HVAC-related heating, ventilation, and air conditioning… and AC refers to only air conditioning. The HVAC system includes heat pumps, furnaces, ventilation units, air cooling units, etc… and AC has only an air cooling system. The main difference is AC does only air cooling, but HVAC does both heating and cooling.

Common Problem and Solution

The most common problem of an HVAC system is not enough airflow poor. To clarify, the system does not distribute enough air to the rooms.

An excellent and quick fix is to check your HVAC filters regularly. Changing the filters regularly is the best way to keep the system optimal

Determine whether Your HVAC Needs to be repaired or Replaced

You can proceed if the repair cost is less than 50% of your system or needs simple maintenance. But replacing the design is wise if it requires frequent repairs, causes high electricity bills, and performs poorly. If the system is 10-15 years old and you’re getting problems daily, move forward to replace it.

Things to Consider Before Buying HVAC

A simple guide to choosing HVAC:

· Set the budget first, then start finding.

· Choose a suitable size because there are many sizes available.

· Take the high-efficient one, even if it costs slightly more.

· Don’t compromise on brand or overlook the SEER rating.

· Choose a certified and trained technician and contractor for your project.

Conclusion

To conclude, I hope this article helps you a lot. The HVAC system is getting more popular because you can use it in any building or environment. However, sometimes it needs repairing and replacing some parts. For HVAC-related high-quality parts and professional repair.
