Introduction Of Valve
Technology has made our lives easier. For plumbing or HVAC purposes, using a valve brings a great change to the whole system. A valve is a control device. It can control fluid, air, or gas in any system. Nowadays, valves are useful for domestic, even astronomy purposes.
What’s Solenoid Valve & Motorized Electrically Valve
A solenoid valve is a directional control valve, and It works without any motor. The Solenoid is an electromagnetic coil. It can control the current through the valve. When an electric current runs through a solenoid, it will generate a magnetic field. This magnetic field helps to move the plunger & open the valve. It is a coil set, a valve body, a pilot head, and a rubber pad.
A motorized ball valve is a valve with a motor. This valve works by the rotation of the motor shaft. Some of them can be open or closed manually. It regulates the analog quantity of the flow of liquid, gas, and air system pipeline. These valves are AI-controlled.
Motorized ball valves consist of a single-phase servo motor & a servo controller. There is also a drive screw & a position limit switch.
The changing time of the directional control valve is low. We turn it on or off in one second. The motorized valve on/off time isn’t so standard.
We can control Motorized Valve opening smoothly. We can open, close, half-open, or half-close the valve. Solenoid valves can’t meet this necessity.
Solenoid valve doesn’t need any reset device. It has a particular function that can be reset at the time of power cut. The motorized ball valve needs a reset device.
Tyes Of Solenoid Valve
Two-way, Three-way & Four-way Solenoid Valves.
A two-way valve has two ways to connect with the source. These are inlet & outlet. These valves can operate either open or close.
The three-way solenoid valve has three control settings. Normal closed, normally open, and general type; These valves can scatter the flow through different ports.
A four-way solenoid valve acts like a double-acting cylinder. It consists of one or two exhaust ports, two-cylinder ports, a pressure port, and a few connectors.
1. Quarter turn valve
2. Multi-turn valve
3. Linear motorized valve
The quarter-turn motorized valve uses a 90° turn. It helps to open and close a port.
For multi-turn motorized valves, Actuators use balls, gates, or other tools. It helps to open and close the valves.
A linear valve works with control or diaphragm valves. It occurs through the movement of fluid.
Construction Materials Of solenoid Valve & Motorized Electric Ball Valve
Solenoid valves are devices of stainless steel and brass options. These valves use bronze, carbon steel, stainless steel & PVC also. Some solenoid valves are Polypropylene, Alloys.
The construction of motorized ball valves has diversity.
Different In Leakage Issue
Solenoid valves cause leakage because of contaminations in the medium.
The basic of a motorized valve is angle stroke. Its sealing is double-sided. So, leakage is not so easy.
Fitting Position Of Solenoid Valve & Electrical Motorized Ball Valve
The working principle of a solenoid valve is straight stroke. So we have to install a valve horizontally. Other types of installation may cause leakage.
You can install a motorized valve as the system fits.
Comparison About Lifespan & Protection
A common failure of a Solenoid valve is long-time coil burning. Sometimes long-time coil burning is essential for electrifying the coil. But it reduces longevity.
Motorized Valve has a longer service life than a solenoid valve. It performs stable.
A Solenoid valve has a low protection level. External dust, air, and temperature can affect Solenoid Valves.
Motorized Ball Valve is more protective than Solenoid Valve.
Suitable Medium For Solenoid Valve& Electric Ball Valve
Solenoid valves are ideal for acid, water, gas, and steam. But the condition is, there should not be any impurities. We can set up a filter in front of the valve. It can ensure a low leakage rate.
A motorized valve is very much appropriate to control the fluid medium, which contains fiber.
You can use solenoid valves with Alternating Current or Direct Current, and Solenoid Valve has a simple design. Power consumption is relatively low. They need no power to hold normally open or normally closed positions.
To hold a position, solenoid valves need continuous power. It may cause heat within the coils. Valves will be burned out if left in the on position for too long.
The Solenoid doesn’t have manual overrides. We must consider water-hammer potential from rapid closing.
There are limitations for backpressure and inlet pressure based on the size and design of the valve.
Almost all the solenoid valves work with a plunger; unwanted particles & debris may cause a huge problem. It allows the valve to leak. In this case, motorized valves can handle random debris. They don’t seal with a diaphragm.
We can use a solenoid valve only for small pipe control. Electric ball valves are often used in large pipelines. They can regulate the management of pipelines.
Merits And Demerits Of Motorized Ball Valves
Motorized Ball Valves work with a high flow rate. The value of ‘heat capacity at constant volume’ (Cv) is very high.
These valves are easy to install. Integration into automation systems is also easy for motorized ball valves. The operating cost of an electrically motorized ball valve is very less. Solenoid valves need a continuous power supply, and it’s costly; these valves permit high inlet pressure & high backpressure.
One should consider water hammer potential. It happens at a high flow capacity.
Internal components damage is a big issue for motorized ball valves. The ball is machined precisely. Damage to the ball may cause the valve to be useless. Servicing is not a solution in this case.
The construction of a motorized valve is not simple. The circuit required to run the valve is also complex. Its failure rate is lower.
We know that the electric actuator has a large torque. This torque can control large pipe diameters and large flow.
